The Imposter

from The Weather In Here by The Smiling Eyes

lyrics

I ride a lonely train from one end of the world to the other, when I arrive there's no-one waiting for me anymore. I've punched the ticket for this car so many times that I've lost count, and the commute has made it's wear on everyone around me.

And I bet that they'll abandon me just like the rest who could not climb the wall, I'm safely huddled up inside and I guess I'll hide the ugly colours from you all. It's boundless - the inconsistencies in me, I'm around less - the individual you seek.

I write myself into the parts I cannot act to save my life, can't take direction from this hack who has no heart or vision. I lose myself inside the plot of every bad film that I've done, I blur the lines between myself and the imposter I've become.

And I bet that they'll abandon me just like the rest who could not climb the wall, I'm safely huddled up inside and I guess I'll hide the ugly colours from you all. It's boundless - the inconsistencies in me, I'm around less - the individual you seek.

I must be going, the train is at the station, my slip is showing, I won't see you back this time next year.
